Isn't it just mind-numbing to think that the the US, which is considered one of the most technologically advanced civilization (according to some), didn't think to work on a "doomsday" plan for their levee system. I am being critical of people that refer to this as "our Tsunami."
First of all, I would guess that most of the people in the area have television, internet, or at least access to radio, so they were warned well in advance (days actaully) of the Hurrican, unlike the people of Thailand, India, Malaysia who had about 30 seconds to react.
In the end, Katrina will have probably claim 2,000 lives, while the Tsunami killed over 200,000 people. CNN shoulds stop making comparisons and sensationalizing every single news story. 1 human death is the most tragic moment for any family and I am confused by the media's attempt to make every "death count" the lead in to their stories.
BTW...following the exhaustive Tsunami coverage, did the mayors of all of the Gulf cities even stop to consider an action plan to protect their cities against flooding. Even without the Tsunami, they are at the base of one of the biggest rivers in the world which floods evey seven years or so. Climatologist have been warning about a 100 year flood on the Mississipi for years, but everyone seems to be shocked.
At least the builders along the San Andreas Fault have updated their materials in response to earthquakes, etc. I feel horrible for the people of Miss and LA and forget all of the celebrities making donations, how about the single entity that benefits the most from global wars, deaths, misery and disasters...CNN. Time for them to make the biggest contribution to aid the victims rather than just reporting it.
Did I mention that I hate CNN?
anonymous, I couldn't agree with your more.
