Under the Weather

Poor Innochka seems to be fighting something off at the moment and has the added responsiblity of having to take care of little Mac. I, on the other hand, have managed to avoid administering TLC for the sake of work. That however, since it is Friday, is about to change. I hope this doesn't impact our plans for going out on a "date" tomorrow night - we were so looking forward to palming off the little guy onto the grandparents.

Internet TV

We are making progress! Maybe it won't be too long before we ditch Dish Network. This rocks!

Baby Development

As "young" parents, we feel obligated to say a few things now and again about Danny, our little gem. For a couple of weeks now he's been entertaining himself with his hands by mostly holding them together and/or sticking them in his mouth. This past weekend though, we noticed that he has begun to grab for things. While we find this amusing and it makes us feel proud, there are other things that have us wondering if we should be at all concerned. For one, he seems to be startling a lot more at sudden sounds around him. Funny thing about this is that just the other day while he was noshing on his bottle he startled at his sudden "passing of wind" and the poor soul broke into tears over the matter. Aaaah, that's our boy!

Modern Terrorists - The Coppers

These are the sorts of things that I guess we'll be seeing more of - all in the name of homeland (in)security. If you are already a Boing Boing reader, then I apologize for wasting your time!

Happy To-Be-Alive/Birth Day

I was reminded (not that I really forgot) that this weekend was the anniversary of the events last year that altered my life, somewhat. As such, I was celebrating my "happy-to-be-alive day." In actual fact, we were celebrating William's birthday and celebrate we did with a small, select group. At Cafe 28 we sampled some terrific wine and a lovely selection of Cuban and Mexican dishes. Looking forward to following that up with some more of the same. Say, Leane, isn't your birthday just around the corner ;)

Sudoku Mania

I hadn't even heard of this game until Oleg alerted me to it today. Seems like this could be a good way to spend the train ride home.

Refigeration Blues

Our refrigerator, which we believe is about as old as our home, decided to call it quits this week. Not a particularly terrible occurrence as we were able to ship the few items we needed to keep really cold off to the in-laws while our cooler box was more than capable of handling the rest of the items. Just keeping it well stocked with ice is a bit of schlep! Thanks to Oleg and Viktoria, we have a replacement ready to install tonight. Since all the other items in our kitchen are about as old as our dead fridge, we're wondering how much longer we have until those need replacing.

Eleven Days Gone

A brief account of a family's experience with Hurricane Katrina.

... We made it to Interstate 55 and started north. There were cars stalled all along the road, and get this—there were more Wal-Mart trucks headed south than ALL of the power utility company trucks and National Guard vehicles combined. How's that for commerce versus relief aid? ...

What are you listening to?

I've never been particularly good at keeping up with the Jones' as far as music goes. For example, I still think OMD is a great band and I'm still quite fond of Norah Jones' Grammy winning album (I'm not even sure if she's brought out anything else). So recently stumbling across "Back to Bedlam" by James Blunt, I was quite surprised to find out that it is quite the hit at the moment. This had me wondering what you might currently be listening to? I know you all have strong opinions (as can be seen by some of the comments generated on this site), so hopefully this will not be a case of trying to draw blood from a stone.

Some Entertainment

It's Monday and maybe you're not quite in the mood to tackle that todo list? Well try this on for size - it will while away your time.

Ashley wins at St. Andrews

I posted a couple of years ago about our budding young golf pro in the family. This young lady is still at it and making us proud. In her tournament this weekend at St. Andrews in Scotland, she placed first and as a result will be playing in the United States next year. Hoping to be able to join her on the course when she comes over so that I can witness, first-hand, our special talent.

Moon Beach Pics

Check out the photos from our trip to Moon Beach this weekend.

Jon Stewart, Katrina and Bush

You can see last night's video at tauquil.com too.

Whoops, we just GACKed.

What I like about most of the blogs I've been hitting lately is that their writers all share the same set of prejudices that I have. In one, I learned what it means to GACK. I guess I'll follow up with links to sites that think Bush has done everything he could have under these circumstances - then we can all enjoy a hearty laugh. I particularly enjoyed The Daily Show last night:

"Was there bureaucratic bungling? The short answer is: yes. The long answer is: YEEEEEESSSSSS!"

Well, we're ready to head north, baby and all! And who are we waiting for - the grandparents who's baby has almost left home already (and who isn't even joining us on the trip).

Road Trip Time

It's Labor Day weekend and we all know what that means? No! Okay, for those of you who don't, it's road trip time. I guess this all started when Laurie let me join her and her gang of friends for a Labor Day trip to Lake Geneva (to see Poi Dog) way back when. We're heading in the same direction this year, but going just a little further North. Moon Beach is beckoning us to Wisconsin's North Woods. Considering little Daniel hasn't even been to the nearby store yet, he has quite the journey ahead of him, and so do we.

Flickr Photos

I've come to really enjoy the Flickr photo solution and have decided to start using it to host our pics. Our recent additions should be visible on the right. Unfortunately, just a few pictures have been uploaded so far, but this will improve with time.
