A Hole in the Head

An incredible testament to medicine and technology is that that I'm sitting at home after just two days from having a tumor removed from my brain. In a matter of a week we went from finding a small 15mm tumor just below the surface of the skull to being admitted, having it removed and being sent home to recover. What a whirlwind these past few days have been, but I cannot express my gratitude enough to the folks at Rush University Hospital who endowed me with unimaginable care and had me leave feeling much better than ever before (or was that the Morphine?). I've got fifteen more days to rest and recover before we being radiation treatment and not too long after that this will all be but a blur. Looking forward to that...

A Small Tumor on the Brain

My three month check-up two weeks ago turned up some good news and some not so good news. The standard CT of the chest demonstrated continued stability of the cancer which is the status quo we've been enjoying for more than a year now. Great news for somebody in my position. However, I've been annoyed with some momentary bouts of memory loss and mention of this to the doctor immediately had him schedule me a brain scan; this is were the bad news was lurking. All I know to date is that a small tumor has been located and that some associated inflammation is the probable cause for my memory loss. What's definite is that it is getting taken out; this week I have tests and doctor's visits to prepare me for this and the surgery could happen as early as Friday.
